Stop Separating Immigrant Children from their Families

Add your name to put a stop to the Trump administration’s «zero tolerance» policy of separating immigrant children from their families. Over the past week, new stories have emerged about children as young as 53 weeks being separated from their mothers — who are turning themselves at the border to federal officials in an effort to seek asylum. These stories have shined a light on the Trump administration’s new «zero tolerance» policy of ripping children away from their parents in order to discourage immigration. Under Trump’s «zero tolerance» policy, ICE, Border Patrol, and other Homeland Security agencies are taking the children of immigrants and asylum-seekers and sending them to faraway detention centers, no matter how young the child, how terrible their situation, or how unnecessary their separation. As these reports raise concerns about how we’re treating immigrant children who enter the country without legal status, we must raise our voices to put an end to this inhumane policy. Add your name to demand the Trump Administration stop separating immigrant children from their families IMMEDIATELY — and account for what is happening to all children in immigration custody.

Prevent Trump from racially rigging the 2020 Census

Send a message to your senators now—pass S.2580 to stop the Trump administration from racially rigging our 2020 Census with an unnecessary, discriminatory question on citizenship. President Trump’s Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced his plan to add an untested, last-minute question about citizenship status to the 2020 Census. Experts say this would dramatically skew the final results—and with it, the resources and political power our communities can access. If the 2020 Census includes this politicized question on citizenship status, it’ll undercount communities of color and others who feel intimidated by Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric—by discouraging them from participating at all. And since we use Census data to draw legislative districts, it’ll amplify the harm of gerrymandering—keeping fair representation in government out of reach for too many of us. We should call this what it is: a politically-motivated attempt to racially rig the census. We need your voice to fight back. We deserve a fair democracy that represents us all—so we need to stop this by putting massive pressure on Congress. *** Dear Members of the U.S. Senate: Please support S.B. 2580 to ensure a fair and accurate Census. The Census requires that everyone within the borders of our country be counted, regardless of their citizenship status. But Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s decision to include a question on citizenship threatens that constitutional requirement, and politicizes this process. An accurate Census is essential in the redrawing of our congressional and legislative districts and budgeting decisions that impact our schools, hospitals, roads, and veterans. That’s why Congress must step in and pass legislation to prevent an unnecessary question on citizenship from muddling the results of the 2020 Census.
