Special counsel Robert Mueller has requested extensive records and emails from the White House that suggest President Trump’s actions in office are under serious scrutiny. A report from the New York Times yesterday provides more specifics about just which of Trump’s actions Mueller and his team are focusing on. Some of the requested White House records include documents related to: 1) President Trump’s decision to fire National Security Adviser Michael Flynn 2) President Trump’s Oval Office meeting with Russian officials in May and 3) Internal deliberations over the White House’s response to news reports about the infamous Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer back in June 2016. The breadth of Mueller’s investigation–now spanning 13 categories–signal that he is focused squarely on the key events related to potential collusion and potential obstruction of justice, and specifically on just what President Trump’s role was. As Mueller gets closer to the truth, it is critical that we protect his independence and check the President’s ability to fire him. Sign the petition to Protect Mueller and call on the Senate to support proposed legislation to stop Trump from firing Mueller.
